Financial Fridays

When I first started Pure Family Gold, I knew that I wanted to begin writing articles that made me uncomfortable but also felt like they had a niche. One of the areas that I saw growing was the personal finance space. From watching my friend, Eric Rosenberg (https://ericrosenberg.com/), share his monthly income statements to learning about FinCon (https://finconexpo.com/) and Mr. Money Mustache (https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/), I was in awe that people were so open about their financial journeys and decided to share our own financial journey.

As with many people, I grew up in a household where finances and money were not really spoken about a lot. I knew that my parents were successful and that my siblings and I were able to experience many different extracurricular activities and travel. But I wasn’t really taught about money or heard about money struggles that my parents inevitably had at various points in their lives. It wasn’t because they didn’t want to share this information, it was because money conversations have been taboo in our society.

Even between couples, money conversations can be non-existent and cause a lot of relationship issues. According to an article by Business Insider, there are 12 money factors that can impact relationships. The major ones include: “opposing attitudes about money, mismatched financial priorities, credit card debt, financial infidelity, and overextending budget.” For some marriage experts, money issues are the number one issue for divorce.

Even in my own relationship with my wife, we have not always been on the same page with finances and we have had both wins and failures. Over the last four years, we have made a lot of progress on our financial goals and we continue to dream about what a stronger financial standing could provide for our family. We have found tips and tricks that have allowed us to pay off debt, travel for almost free, and find extra money to help us reach our goals.

It is my hope to share some of these financial nuggets with you and to help you reach your financial goals. With this in mind, I am excited to announce a weekly piece that I will do called Financial Fridays.

Whether you just read an article or you want to schedule a time to go over your financials, I hope that Financial Gold helps you start dreaming and communicating about your financial future.
